Meet Fresh @ One of their many branches throughout Taipei

If there was a national drink for Taiwan, it would have to be bubble milk tea.

We first bumped into this humble dessert store right outside the Shilin MRT station but we soon realised that Meet Fresh with the logo of an old aged smiling couple is littered all over especially nearby MRT stations.

Not only do they do a decent bubble milk tea (after days of drinking the thing, it tastes almost all the same regardless of where you buy it from, almost like drinking Starbucks, OEM style) but they do some taiwanese desserts.

Whether hot or cold, modern or traditional, it is jacks of all trade where you get a taste of everything for an affordable price. Drinks are like NT25-45 (RM2.50 to RM4.50) and desserts costs a maximum of NT50 thereabouts (RM5).

So looking for a place to rest your legs and have some sweets?

Try Meet Fresh or Xian Yu Xian.

Apparently, yam is famous in Taiwan and this was one sweet yam ball (naturally, i hoped) in a red bean soup, filled with mango and yam mochi like cubes.

Or you can have ice shavings, herbal jelly and the mochi balls.

Take your pick and TGIF!

given a choice between yam and potato, i'd actually choose yam! reminds me of my childhood, when my grandmother used to whip up steamed yam cakes, fried yam fritters, etc. though i never had yam in red bean soup and mochi back then :D

Yam is really the ultimate root - I mean no disrespect to the very versatile spud but can you imagine potatoes in wu kok? Or bubur chacha? Or as a distinctively Malaysian ice cream flavour? I think not!
