Unfortunately when it comes to a dish like assam laksa, you are starring at a rather unappreciative man who doesn't exactly like sour things.
Maybe it is a gender thing, because i find that females who circle around me on a daily or a weekly basis tend to crave for sour things like assam laksa.
So it was brainless to take the Girlfriend here to try out the fame Assam Laksa.
The big hype caused me to come and visit them on a weekend. Looks like the place targets the office lunch crowd so it was rather empty. Just the way i like it.When it comes to the best assam laksa, the Girlfriend has had, she names her own Grandma's and Sea Park at the top.
This version met her expectations when it came to the sourness, saltiness and etc.
Downside was that it wasn't "kao" enough, i suppose she like a a stew rather than broth like version.
The Nasi Lemak was famous, but we just had the packet version for breakfast. So after going through a list that either "finished" or didn't look too enticing, we gave Loh Mee a try. Sorely missing the pork lard to give the noodles, the extra oomph it needed.
The fried chicken saved the day. This was one of the best fried chicken i had in awhile. The rempah-rempah sprinkled on top was infectious, while the chicken was juicy unlike the versions you get at the mamak when it is fried till a piece of meat that might make a dent to the teeth. One huge piece for RM7, we had two. Worth every cent.
Wash it down with some barley limau ice.Time to watch tennis after that.
A nice cosy neighbourhood cafe for a quick meal. Look out for the nasi lemak and the assam laksa, while rumours has it that the owner is also worthwhile looking out for too.
Address:
Lorong Maarof,
Bangsar
Verdict: The Girlfriend says 4 stars. I will definitely come back just for the chicken x 3. I think Rice Cafe has been officially the most talked about cafe in the blogosphere relating to their Assam Laksa.
