Whipped Into Place @ Bangsar Shopping Centre

Remember WIP in Bangsar Shopping Centre? They had a great story line, a temporary concept just like the name; Work in Progress. Opened for the sake of research and knowing what people wanted to have around the neighbourhood.

Having opened for quite awhile for gathering information, they closed down to renovate and unleash their new swanky place.

WIP is no longer work in progress but Whipped Into Place.

For a start, i think customers will continue calling it WIP because Whipped Into Place is just not catchy but rather putting off or kinky if you wish to skew your thoughts.

Well how about food? The menu is new and old at the same time. It features certain star dishes which gain their fame from the Souled Out days and new additions (from their research). I like their menu book too, has the same pattern as my wallet.


Our meal to say the least was bordering disappointing.

I heard salty then bland then salty.

I was served a butter chicken that no way looked and tasted like the one i had in Souled Out (excuse probably given is different concept, different style?)

I heard "bah, the chicken is so tough that i can barely chew", "the squid tastes like rubber" and "are you sure your cocktail got alcohol one ar?"

Surely a place that took their research so seriously, shouldn't deserve such comments?

Everything was alright except that tough chicken piece.

A rather small piece of mushroom? Salty as well apparently.

A concept that clearly doesn't work; sausages passing of as chorizo, mussels and beef tripe. Beef tripe are usually stewed to absorb flavours and has a very distinct strong and not exactly pleasant taste if not flavoured properly. I could taste that strong unpleasant flavour.

A thai beef salad that was salty and returned bland.

Skewers of beef and seafood. Someone attempted to poke their hand with the skewer, out of disappointment?

I suppose thats enough pictures.

Clearly disappointing and really hard for me to step in again. Service was decent but really how do you draw a line when the waitress ask if everything is fine?

Do you talk till the cows come home or do you smile say its good and never return?

Would talking till the cows come home give you free food because nothing was acceptable or just a nod here and there and a thank you very much?

Something to ponder definitely.

hmm normally i'd briefly mention which dishes could be improved, leaving them looking damn puzzled (most of them only ask "how was the food" out of obligation, didn't intend to get any real feedback at all) and said "oh ok" and that's about it ^_^

I thought I can come here since it's so convenient for me. Guess I'll have to stick to Souled Out until they improve on the food. T_T

Maybe they hadn't completely stabilised things in the kitchen yet when we went? (since they had juuuuuuust reopened)

I know should go back for 2nd try but scared to go and then feel like I wasted money.

(Oh, btw: Did you go for Fizfit on Thurs or not? Your excuse wants to know :P)

Well, at least I had a faultless excuse - no one can blame me from skipping out when I was having a high fever, right? :) :)

Oh, btw, my dad has banned me from going for any strenuous activity until after my long holiday... He says its too much of a risk - I have only just recovered and working out will reduce my immunity+increase my chances of falling ill again. SORRY! :(
(If I didn't have so much at risk, I'd still join you but I have spent too much on this holiday to take any chances.....)

GREAAAAAT BLOG!!! I started reading your blog 4 days ago. I already referred to the restaurant information you posted in your blog and according to your rating, I chose a restaurant today for my friends visiting from Japan. This weekend I have another group of Japanese friends coming to KL. Thanks to your blog, I have already made a booking for a restaurant that you gave good rating and I am sure my friends will love the place. oh, sad to hear about WIP. thot the name change was refreshing, but sad that the food was so bad! hehe dont need to talk till the cows come home, but should just tell them the food is below average. the look on the waiter's face: priceless :p (did that to another restaurant before..haha)
