Meng Kee Char Siew @ Glenmarie Shah Alam

Recently, I have been talking to my mom about how i spend money and it hit my mind faster than a bullet train, that i spend majority if not all of my salary on food! Well entertainment too.

Essentially it gets absorbed in the body for a couple of hours and eventually is churned and excreted to "you know what."

So last weekend, I decided enough is enough, yes no more fine dining and spending hundreds on a meal. Lets have food that the normal Joe on the street would eat (yes, my name IS joe)

Yeap, we shall eat Char Siew Fan.

Not any ordinary Char Siew Fan of course, like my mom said, "bugger eat char siew fan also must eat the best of the best".

One step at a time, one step at a time.

Meng Kee Char Siew.

Just like how the Tengkat Tong Shin original outlet, minus all the smoke and oil stained floor, a lady walks around asking what vegetables you would like to have; to absorb all that carbon and non halal fat.

While waiting patiently for my char siew fan, we noticed the guy chopping out the meat. Not only was his shirt staining of char siew, he was bleeding char siew sauce! Oh, i meant spilling right to the legs!

The Siew Cheong; essentially the chinese version of the liver sausage. This came with a smooth texture with the exception of the meaty bits that gave it a crunch.

The Yin Yeong Chicken (Steamed and roasted) were mere side kicks to the real hero. Still good enough to eat while waiting. Tender and succulent.

Finally, the dish that i had been waiting for. Despite asking for a portion for 4, the first reaction was, is this it? The temptation to order another plate before even digging into the first place was immense before the functional brains beside me to say hold your horses. Although at the end of the meal, i sort of regretted because every piece was like heaven or if some may insist, an orgasm.

After all i was on a budget.

So it was, RM 18 per pax, definitely cheaper than a fine dining meal but wait a minute, how much does a normal plate of char siew fan cost?

Oh well, one step at a time.

Verdict: 4.5 stars out of 5 stars. One of the best char siew i ever had, half lean and half fats, with the charred bits, they have come up with the perfect formula. All this minus the jam to town and the smoky outlet that looks like it will crumble anytime.

RM18 each!?!! this is getting ... absurd. like a set lunch price.

but anyway, char siew is getting the attention it deserves, no thanks to meng kee, FSF, and the other one with sakura pork which i cant rmbr the name. =P

thank God for ppl like u who tell us where to eat the best cha siu fan.but tt's very pricey, yah? n joe, as a mom, i still think home food is best (never forget outside food taste good but are usually low-grade ingredients plumped up with flavors n additives to increase profits) so how about some adventures in the kitchen?

meat too sweet, not tender enough, not worth travelling for a meal.
