I reckon steamboat is about the best choice.

With steamboat restaurants mushrooming all over the place, creativity plays a big part in luring a part of the crowd into their restaurant, Lin Yuan does it well with their "third" soup base, something that you can rarely find: Golden pumpkin porridge soup base.
Essentially mashed pumpkin starch-like soup, it has a natural sweetness into it, and gives an attractive colour to the ingredients you put into it. Throw in an egg with strands of yellow noodles forming as it boils, suddenly the plain soup looks, well rather plain.

With their 1 person set at RM12.90, and alot more attractive ala-carte items, it can be a hearty meal that will suit any budget.

Or if you choose to splurge, you can do so too!
At the end of an usual steamboat affair, dump in the noodles to absorb whatever goodies you thrown in the pot, and rub your tummy with satisfaction.

Verdict: 3.5 stars out of 5 stars; considering it is now raining as i type this, anything hot and steamy is always good for the inner soul eh?

chicken soup for the soul! hehe... steamboat is good for the rainy weather.. but unfortunately not one of my favs la... i find it too much work and you feel hungry in like 1 hour.. (because of all the soup you drink, not food you eat)! hahaha- am i not strange that way.. ?!
I'm not a huge fan of steamboat cos I malas nak tunggu the food to get masak. BUT. I love pumpkin so this is very, very the tempting... How come I've not heard of this before? Malu-nye macam katak di bawah tempurung. :P
Steamboat does make the perfect meal on a rainy day. :) I've heard of this place...my ex-colleagues raved about it. There's a "stock clearance place" there as well right?
Always love this dish with good company. Need to slow down our pace. I was taught by my Vietnamese friend that this type of food are for conversations. I have one in Dalat highlands in cool weather with lots of beef. Incidentally it's called 'ta pin lu'.
worldwindows: haha isnt ta pin lu..canto for steamboat too? i can imagine how intense the broth must have been
bangsar: is there? not sure..but yeah its something abit different
lob: my first time too.. yeah it takes awhile to get cooked lor..not for a quickie..
c&c: haha thats wat the noodles are for..but yeah..totally agree..
i love steamboat! RM12.90 like so dai for tht portion
i dun really like steamboat either. wait wait til cook ... then eat a few balls and meat... then all finished.
then damn fast hungry again.
unless with a LARGE group, where everybody's washing their chopsticks in the pot. yum .... =P
Ooh agree, the bubbling broth does soothe a weary soul on a stormy night indeed! However, I don't get steamboat that stocks up on the "manufactured" fish balls, cakes and crab sticks... what gives?!
When I was younger, I didnt like steamboat as I found it too bland and HOT (with our weather!) but now, I love it! It gives the natural sweetness back to the ingredients!
Ya Queen Park has a few outlets. Esprit and Giordano is one of the few. :)
Opposite Carrefour there is 1 beef noodle which is quite good also. And the Lou Mai KAi(Glutinous rice chicken) is good! :)
you should try the ones in hong kong eiei.....
I like steamboat coz it's not that heavy and "ching" - good on a cold evening too! But the best is DIY home-cooked steamboat...can have lotsa other stuff u dont get in the shops eg kidney, intestines, stomach, thin slices of meats, lots of all kinds of mushrooms and all yr fave vege...yahahayummm!
good to have it especially right now... the rainy days!

Golden pumpkin porridge soup base? wow, sounds interesting. put in some meat and it's a hearty starter by itself, me thinks. nice!
Oh if you do try it in HK, be aware that the many different soup base is at different prices. My experience was good but got very thristy thereafter.
nic: haha steamboat for starters? what a glutton man..
tummythoz: hmm i would think so, esp if they mention they are going to throw in some exotic items..had steam yesterday at damansara village, add rice wine, plus some herbs (+rm12)..
