Zipangu @ Shangri La

After stressing over the stupid 3 hour exam..i finally tasted freedom..but that wont fill your stomach rite? So off we went to indulge in something so grand that i havent tasted before..beyond the ordinary and the bashing my wallet took, thank god it survived..so in we stepped into Xipangu..one of the top Japanese restaurants in KL..the ambience is different from Iketeru..more brightly litted with an open kitchen concept..i was abit disappointed by the fact i did not see more then 1 or 2 japanese chefs..instead i saw cambodians lookalike and locals doing the tempura and the shioyaki..slightly put me off..but the chun japanese captain made up for it as she guides us to our table..this is life..

Edamame..this on the spot steamed beans..just the beans are edible by the way..dont be stupid to swallow the whole thing..nicely salted as well..yum yum..

This is what came with our bento set..chawan mushi and boy choy or yuen choy..the mystery is still left unsolved..

Broiled octopus and raddish i think..this tasted decent..i think it was just there to add the value for money..

The first half of the sashimi set we ordered..RM65++..Two slices of octopus and a nice piece of raw prawn..omg this tastes like heaven..now i wont eat ema ebi from anywhere else..

The second half of the sashimi plate..melting salmon..the tuna was in nowhere frozen..unlike the cheaper ones..melting also la..and another kind of fish which was on the firm side..nice chewy texture..such beauty..oh why was i not born in Japan?

Sommore sashimi that came with my bento set..notice the difference in size and i guess in a way quality..served on a small bed of ice..

The saba fish that came with the set..this was once again top class as it was firm and did not a mushy texture unlike the cheaper ones..

Salmon shioyaki..this is on par with the Iketeru shioyaki..but the serving was very decent..

Along with what i have shown you, they serve you rice and miso soup..the miso soup had alot of extra ingredients which was definitely pleasant..but with all 5 star hotels..food is definitely first class..service was commendable except my tea wasnt filled up fast enough..they had some problems with the order of dishes they served us..accordingly they should start with sashimi..so i am told..but the appetizers of our bentos was served..and to my friend..it sort of put her off..but oh well..easily satisfied me..it was just damn good..definitely a 8.7 out of 10..if there was no money issues, this is easily in the mid 9s..Lunch bento starts from RM45++ to RM100++..dinner ala carte is also around there..details? go to their website..

i think its spelt with a Zee no? Zipangu? anyway, its great. you should get the shangrila prestige card. me & wife go there all the time, and with the card, its actually cheaper for us to eat there than at a normal jap rest. usually for 2 of us, its about RM100, and that's with stuff like foie gras wintermelon, codfish, spider rolls, etc etc...

btw, if you love edamame beans, just go and buy them from the supermarket. they're cheap, and they make a darn good snack. you can just use a microwave steamer and zap them for 3 minutes, and its as good as in any jap rest. i think its about RM6 for a lot.

Sulee,
Well, I had raw salmon before and it's real good too but after the third piece, I'm like starting to get bloated... Is it anything wrong with me??
